Sandglass

Dancer: Boxiang (Kevin) Zhang

The name of my piece is called the sandglass. This story is about a man who want to succeed too much so he ignored his family a lot, although he succeeded in the end, his family left him. One day in his dream he recalled the happy time he used to have with his family, he regretted he did not value that happy time

21

 Embrace

Dancer: Melody Muniz

Music: Who Got Me

This piece for me was all about accepting and embracing my true self. I've always loved dancing and this year I've experimented so much more with creative flows. Learning about directions and levels as the basic building blocks of dance really enhanced my understanding of the art form. One dance can be rearranged into 20 different dances simply by changing one aspect. The calming, flowy song I chose mirrored my own sense of calm when I am dancing - I am able to enter into a flow state where it's just me and my body. For me, dancing is an act of self-love and being able to do it more often is such a gratifying experience.

22

Creating Through Turbulence

Dancer: Ashna Vaidyanath

Music: Let me down slowly - Alec Benjamin

This piece talks about the journey that I've been on since I graduated high school. I want this piece to encompass the themes of heartache, change, and learning to power through the struggles that you are facing. Dance has always helped me cope with the stressors that I face and I can't wait to continue to perform as a way to overcome and showcase my triumph over adversity.

23

"Stay With Me"

Dancer: Hanlin Wang

Choreographer: Hanlin Wang

Music: DO not go, My lover  by Sam Smith

I mainly wanted to express a boy in a rainstorm, not wanting his lover to leave. In the dance, I added a lot of slow movements. This mainly wanted to highlight the sadness of the main character. At the end, the main character's lover still left. He is very sad.

Music:

Each of us took dance for a reason, whether it be to escape the stress of school, to avoid the expectation of good grades, or to elude the standards that we place upon ourselves. We want our piece to showcase our usage of this class as an escape from our various stressors and to prove how healthy dance can be as a getaway from the hardships of everyday life. We are each grateful for movement and need this class for our own, personal reason. While the individuals in the group have different circumstances for taking the class, dance was able to bring us together and allows us to perform as one.
