Laban's Patterns of Body Connections
I
Warm Up
II
Stretching
III
Concept: Body
The body
category describes structural and physical characteristics of the human
body while moving.
This category is responsible for describing which
body parts are moving, which parts are connected, which parts are
influenced by others, and general statements about body organization.
Breath Connectivity
Athletes breathing versus diaphragmatic breathing.
IV
Activity
Walk around the room (Use directions, levels and focus)
Now connect with your breath ass you walk.
Now move on the inhale and pause on the exhale.
Then, move on the exhale and pause on the exhale.
Combine the inhales and exhales as you move.
V
Analysis
Students discuss among themselves (in their groups) their observations and impressions of their own bodies reactions to the exercise. Students write their reflections on Discussion Board.
Question 1
Write a reflection on your experience with breath and movement.
-----------------------------------
VI
Concept: Several subcategories of body are:
- Initiation of movement starting from specific bodies
- Connection of different bodies to each other
- Sequencing of movement between parts of the body
- Patterns of body organization and connectivity
-----------------------
VI
Patterns of Connectivity
Standing
1. Lateral
2. Core Distal
3. Upper Lower
---------------------------------------------
Lying Down
Early Patterns of Total Body Connectivity.
VII
Analysis
Students discuss their own experiences with these patterns of movement connections among themselves. They use the question below as a prompt. They write their answer on Discussion Board.
Question 2
After trying and/or observing the different movement patterns, explain how did it feel to put your body through this work?
------------------------------------------
VIII
Activity
After watching the video below, students integrate the patterns of body connection into one movement sequence.

Cross-Lateral
--------------------------
Activity (Continue)
Combine all the patterns of body connectivity explained in each video, and create an 8 movement phrase.
PATTERNS
- Lateral
- Core Distal
- Upper Lower
- Naval Radiation
- Body Halves
- Spinal
- Cross Lateral
- Floor (Early patterns of total connectivity)
RECORD IT AND POST IT ON DISCUSSION BOARD

ReplyDeleteWe noticed our breathing was alot easier and more improved today. It felt we were breathing wrong before. When we were moving it was easier to exhale. This is because it felt more natural.
It felt good to put our bodies and movement together. It helped feel more natural and our movement was swift. We enjoyed our dance today
