1. What is expressionism?

expression allowed to break from tradition and explain avante-garde art. It also allowed it to override impressionism.

2. What aspect of Schonberg's music could have influenced Wigman's ideas about dance?

Schonberg’s music could have influenced Wigman’s ideas about dance because it gave moments of pause for breath and allowed to create movement that allows to explore choreography that can tell a story. Every sound seemed to have reflect a time of emotion which would have been tied to a dance movement which would reflect the tone of the music.

    1-Expressionism wasnt just involved in dance but all the arts. When the composer breaks against traditional norms and creates a piece through their inner feelings.
    2-They both revolted against traditional rules in music and played pieces through expressive emotions which were hard to follow.
    3- The main difference was Laban danced through the traditional norms and values of dance while Wigman danced and was influenced through her emotions so she could express it.

1 Honoring the History of Modern Dance Patrick Haskell          I had a lot of fun building my solo and ensemble piece throughout the semester. While it may look like just a dance, the pieces are made up of inspiration from Laban, Mary Wigman, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth St. Denis and their methods and techniques. I am excited to have an individual solo to carry with me for the rest of my life. It is something that embodies who I am and I would be proud to perform for anyone. As I stated in my synopsis, I want the piece to be a representation of who I am in the present moment.                I hope to reflect upon it in the future when my dreams hopefully come to fruition and acknowledge the growth I have made since then.
